23 July 2011 After School Red and Blue make their debut on Music Core
After a long wait, the After School subunits - After School Red and After School Blue – are ready to bring it on with their respective debut stages on today’s episode of MBC’s Music Core.
After School decided to embark on a little friendly competition by splitting into two subunits, as voted by fans – A.S. RED hosts members Kahi, Jungah, Nana, and UEE, while A.S. BLUE features members Jooyeon, Raina, Lizzy, and E-Young.
Through this unique promotion, they hope to show off two different sides to the beauty that is After School. A.S. RED will bring out a sexy, powerful concept, while A.S. BLUE will cater to the summer heat with a sweet and outgoing concept. Check out their debut stages below!

21 July 2011 Pledis responds to accusations of AS Blue copying Fin.K.L.
After School’s new sub-unit AS Blue is caught in a controversy that allege they copied old school K-pop girl group, Fin.K.L.
AS Blue released their new song “Wonder Boy” on July 20th, and the song quickly garnered accusations of how it was too similar to Fin.K.L.’s 1999 hit song, “Forever Love“. Not only does the song have a similar concept, but the last line which states “Promise me” can also be found in Fin.K.L.’s work as well.
Pledis Entertainment explained,
“It is true that we set Fin.K.L’s ‘Forever Love’ as the concept, since it had a huge ripple effect in the ’90s. However, we were only paying to the innocence and bubbly feel of ‘Forever Love’. We did not intend to cause a controversy over plagiarism.
‘Forever Love’ was able to receive much love because it had easy lyrics to sing along to and a fun melody. We wanted to recreate that positive effect through ‘Wonder Boy’.
‘Wonder Boy’ is a pop song that can be joyfully listened to, and is easy to sing along to. If you watch a performance, you will see that AS Blue has a own charm totally different from Fin.K.L’s.“

Unfortunately for AS Blue, their connection to Fin.K.L. isn’t the only controversy they have to face. The girls really sought to exude a sense of innocence in their image, but netizens were thrown off by how they donned white garter belts in the music video.
Many people are expressing that garter belts, often considered to be a sexy, if not racy fashion item, are inappropriate for AS Blue’s innocent and cute concept.

It seems like we’ve waited a long time for After School’s two sub-units, AS Red and AS Blue to release their respective singles, and now they’ve finally arrived!
AS Blue came out with two songs, “Wonder Boy” and “Lady“, while AS Red unveiled “In The Night Sky” and “Hollywood“. AS Blue have adopted the ’sweet, outgoing’ concept and delivered summery tracks to match. Meanwhile, AS Red sizzled with their ’sexy, confident’ image with these strong dance tracks.

After School took a unique approach for their newest comeback, splitting into two units – ‘After School Red‘ and ‘After School Blue‘ – fostering friendly competition between the members.
The famous composer / producer Brave Brothers will collaborate with After School’s Kahi, Jungah, Uee, and Nana for After School Red’s “In the Night Sky“, while After School Blue’s Raina, Lizzy, Jooyeon, and E-Young will be working with Jo Young Soo.
Earlier today, Pledis Entertainment’s official website updated their site with 2 new concept photos of both units, to whip up even more anticipation for their official unveiling next week.

14 July 2011 Rivalry heats up between producers of After School’s subunits
Although the intent behind dividing After School into two units – ‘After School Red‘ and ‘After School Blue‘ – was to foster friendly competition between the members, it looks like there will also be a rivalry between the composers for their new albums.
The famous composing team Brave Brothers will collaborate with After School’s Kahi, Jungah, Uee, and Nana for After School Red’s “In the Night Sky“. Brave Brothers previously worked with the group for “Diva” and “Because of You“.
Meanwhile, After School Blue’s Raina, Lizzy, Jooyeon, and E-Young will be working with Jo Young Soo, the composer of Orange Caramel’s “Magic Girl” and “Aing“, to produce an all-new track titled “Wonder Boy“.
The two units will have contrasting styles – the Red team will feature charismatic and sexy music, while the Blue team will go for the cute and fresh feel.
“Blue and Red are units that each showcase their own appeal,” said a representative for After School. “It will also be interesting to see the match-up between the composers.”
Fans reacted positively to the news, as one particular comment expressed, “A showdown between Brave Brothers and Jo Young-soo, I don’t know which side to support.”
